Costume Pick Up Times and Recital Information and Options

DM @nevadadanceacademy on instagram to order your own 30th anniversary shirt

Hello all my NDA family,

2020 has surprised us by sending us a virus to keep us apart.  I apologize if you have felt frustrated and out of the loop concerning studio classes, recital, etc.    Trust me..for someone who is a bit of a control freak ..this has shaken my foundation!   I feel like I am in an “off balance Penche”.

We have obviously been taking our cues from the CDC and local authorities.
We still have no definitive idea of when we can expect to open the studio or what limitations will be put in place.

Greg and I have been trying to plan for different scenarios as they are revealed to us. We realize the June recital date is no longer a realistic goal.

Option 1: If we can open to a normal schedule for June and July we would like to have the recital in August.

Option 2: If we can only re-open later..say August, we will likely delay the recital to November or December depending on theater availability.

In the meantime we are running some ZOOM classes in May to help those who can participate stay in shape and retain what has been learned prior to the pandemic.  Please download the ZOOM ap if you are interested in participating.  We are using the Venmo ap to collect payment.  Our teachers are enthused to see you all at the Zoom classes.  We miss your “Ugly” faces too!

Please pay for the Zoom class(es) before 1pm of the class day.  The numerical ID and password for the class will be sent upon receipt of  payment.  If you are having Difficulty with the Venmo payment text me (775 338-6851) before the class and we will do our best to resolve.

Class Prep

Please prepare your dance space and warm up before the class to get the maximum benefit.  Tap dancers are encouraged to have a tap board ready.
If using WiFi try to position yourself in an area that receives a good, uninterrupted signal. The closer to the router, the better.

Ballet dancers should have a tall chair, shelf or barre if possible.  Classes will begin with barre work.

Pointe dancers please make sure you are thera-banding those feet daily to keep them strong and have a secure barre/chair available.

Intro dancers (Fri 3pm)  please have a chair, a scarf, a doll or teddy bear,  a pot
(to use as a drum),  and two spoons for maracas.

I understand not all Intro dancers can attend the Friday class. Please text me if you prefer this class at Saturday 11am.  There is a practice class on Family Connect for these students to review their dance.

This is new to us and we are excited that it allows us to stay in touch.  We are relying on our amazing NDA families to help keep the studio afloat during this challenging time.  Please join in if you are able.

Check here for updated schedule info.

We have also posted videos previously here on the NDA Family Connect blogspot site intended to keep our dancers engaged.

This site is the easiest way for us to keep our NDA family informed.  We have also been sending out group text messages as we have found sending e-mails to be problematic.  It seems many of the addresses are no longer valid.  Please make sure you are on the group text.

If you need to text Miss Diane directly, she can be reached at (775) 338-6851 and will add you to the group.

As soon as we are allowed we hope to conduct semi-private lessons in small groups or singles at the studio. We anticipate that students will have to be dropped off…ready to dance and be picked up after class with no loitering or hanging out in the dressing room.  It would be difficult to supervise the 6’distancing.   Parents of older children will need to wait outside in their vehicles as we can’t provide the safe distancing.

Saturday-May 9

We would like to plan a “Drive By” Costume pick up at the studio

(of course we will be observing the social distancing guidelines).

Also please be aware that we will have NDA 30 year celebration T-Shirts

Available for sale ($20).   Also an opportunity for Miss Diane to send air hugs to all her kiddos that she misses so much!

11am -12pm   Primary 2/3 Tarantella, Musical Theater, and  Kids Jazz

12pm – 1pm     Grade 2 Ballet, Beginning Pointe, Lance Jazz, Grade 3 Ballet, costumes

1pm – 2pm   Senior Ballet Moonlight,  Phantom costumes

NDA has girls graduating this season.  How sad that they don’t get their moment in the spotlight.  We would like to shower them with love from a distance and will be featuring them on Instagram and Facebook over the coming weeks.

If you would like to show them your support, please look out for these posts.
Write them a card and drop off on “Drive by Day” and we will have a gift box set up for them. We will also have “shoe-box” mailboxes for all our teachers. If your dancer would like to draw a picture or send a note to a teacher at this time I know they would appreciate it.

Love and miss you all!

   Miss Diane

  • 5:45 Finale rehearsal -- all dancers are welcome to participate!

Sunday, June 9th | DRESS RECITAL (at Pioneer Center)

Photo Day Information - Sunday, June 2nd

It's that time of year again -- time for recital photos!

- Please, make sure that your dancer's hair and make up is done prior to coming to the studio.

- Make sure you check with your teacher to see what hairstyles, color of tights and lipstick should be worn with each outfit.

- The inside of all costumes should be labeled with the dancer's name.

- We ask for you patience on this day. The photographer and Ms. Diane are working hard to get your dancer looking their best in every picture.

- Photo purchase information will be available at the recital and during 2019-2020 enrollment days in mid-August.

NDA Family Connect has complied some helpful hints over the years and we find that these help in making sure everything goes smoothly:

Arrive at the studio with hair neatly up and makeup done. (see makeup directions below)
  • Please be at the studio 15 minutes before your picture time. The photographer can’t wait, so please be on time.
  • Bring water and non-messy snacks.
  • No siblings, please (one parent per dancer). It gets very crowded in the studio.
  • Please be patient and kind. Every dancer of every act will be photographed individually as well as with their group, and Ms. Diane makes sure they look amazing.
  • Picture Day can run behind schedule, and can also catch up, so don’t count on coming late. But also try not to schedule anything within 2 hours after your time. If you're worried about time, please contact a parent (who may have dancers with an earlier call time) a few hours before your scheduled time to see what the schedule looks like, but still plan on being 1⁄2 hour early. Once the older girls start getting photographed, the schedule will catch up.
Costumes: Be sure to bring all the costumes, accessories and shoes for each routine your dancer will be performing at Recital.

Makeup:  Blush, brown eyeshadow, white eyeshadow, black mascara, black liquid eyeliner, pink lipstick or red lipstick depending on the routine (please check with your instructor on which lipstick color your dancer will be wearing). Also, please make sure there is NO nail polish on their nails. A very neutral color may be okay, but please, check with Ms. Diane to be sure.

Apply:

  • Brown eyeshadow on the lid
  • White eyeshadow below the brow
  • Black eyeliner winged at the edge of the eye
  • Lots of blush (the stage lights will wash out the dancer)
  • Red/pink lipstick (ask teacher for their choice)
  • For older grades, black false eyelashes. Younger children, please, try and apply a little mascara.

I found a post on s2makeupstudio with some very helpful hints for recital makeup. I know some of you may not want any makeup on your dancer, but keep in mind the harshness/wash out effect of stage lights. Also, here's an excellent post on the reasons for stage makeup including: lights, sweating, bright costumes, distance between dancer and audience. This should ease your concerns.

Hair: neatly slicked back into bun with a hair net (this requirement may be changed by their teacher and is dependent on the number the dancer is in). No bangs or flyaways. Boys, please check with your teacher on hair style requirement.
No jewelry: This means no earrings, watches, necklaces, etc.
Ballet/Jazz/Tap shoes: Clean and free of marks!
Tights:  No holes and clean, please. Studio tights are available for purchase at the Ballet Boutique (please, check hours in the sidebar to make sure it's staffed before you arrive).
