Competitive Showcase Update: Raffle Items Needed

The Competitive Showcase is coming up this Saturday (May 10th), and many of you already know that there is a raffle that takes place at the end of the performance. The donations from the raffle go to a charity that is meaningful to the NDA dancers. In past years, the money donated has gone to help the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and March of Dimes . In addition, Ms. Diane always matches the total raised with a donation from the Guest-Hoff family.

As many of you know, the dance community here in Reno is a small, tight family. Miss Kia's (the owner and director of Fascinating Rhythm) husband, Tad, has been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). This is a progressive, neuro-degenarative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. There is no cure. Tad is a fighter and although he has lost the ability to speak and swallow, he is currently able to walk with a walker. Unfortunately, he has had to leave his job of 39 years (as a General Manager of Ben's Fine Wines and Spirits).

Our raffle this year will go towards the Raise Your Glass Benefit (Harrah's, May 29th, 2014), which will help Kia and Tad reconfigure their 2-story home so it is wheelchair accessible. Please bring any of raffle items to Ms. Diane on or before this Friday (May 9th). Think about what you can donate towards this cause. In the past, NDA family members have donated:

  • Starbucks gift certificates/baskets
  • Theme baskets for movie nights/sports/games (think of grouping your gently used items that you are ready to pass on, but are still in great condition)
  • Nothing Bundt cakes
  • Hand-painted works
  • Homemade goodies (cakes, cookies, loom bracelets)
  • Dance related items (you know how we all love those!)
We would like for all of our families, who had dancers compete this season, to donate ONE item for the raffle.

I know how very generous NDA families can be, and here's our chance to come together and raise funds for a fellow dancer who needs our help.
